Groundbreaking to Kick Off Construction of New PEM Headquarters

Updated: Jan 25, 2021

Plastics Extrusion Machinery LLC (PEM), the leading U.S. manufacturer of downstream extrusion equipment in the PVC pipe and custom profile industries will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. to kick off the construction of their new corporate headquarters in McPherson, Kansas. The ceremony will be held at the site of their new building located at the corner of 17th and Northview Avenues.

Nathan Spearman, PEM’s owner and CEO will speak along with representatives from Hutton Construction, the General Contractors on the project. Local leaders will also share a few words about PEM’s investment in the McPherson community.

PEM currently operates out of two facilities. One at 900 Kit Blvd. in McPherson and one at 2950 26th Ave. SW in Tumwater, Washington. Situated on 15 acres, this new, state-of-the-art facility will replace their current building in McPherson and add an additional 73,000 square feet of administrative and production space. This new facility will allow PEM to add additional workforce and increase production speed and capacity, positioning them to better meet current customer expectations and expand in the future.

Spearman purchased PEM in 2017, and since then, the company has grown significantly, purchasing competing company Advance Equipment Company (AEC) in 2018, expanding its’ manufacturing footprint to include a second facility in Tumwater, Washington. In addition, Spearman purchased the business technology of Costa Rican company BellTech Machinery, also in 2018. “McPherson is our home-base and I am excited to invest further in this community that has had such a strong history in the plastics industry”, said Spearman.

“This new building is not only great for our customers and employees, but it’s also been great for me personally as my son, Zach, has been able to be involved in the design of the new building”, said Spearman. Zach is an architecture student at Kansas State University and collaborated with Hutton Construction to design the vestibule of the new structure. “Hutton has been great to work with and we look forward to this next phase of the project,” said Spearman.
